Perception & Perspective

THE LENS OF THOUGHT LIFE: Large zones segmented or divided into smaller spaces.

The mind is always imprinting... continually broadcasting... . The breadth of observations that enter our sphere coupled with our interpretation of those fields, is both incalculable and uninterrupted.

We often glimpse rather than observe and fully examine. We often interpret and report before all facts are in evidence.

When these impressions are viewed too close or too far away, perspective is skewed and we restrict options and privilege; we self-appoint boundaries, creating chaos and deprivation. Such actions often cause us to draw unfavorable conclusions to welcoming matters.

Perception and perspective change the way we view circumstances and relationships. We often assume things to be a certain way when, in fact, our theory and presumption is formed by false convictions. Every decision we make thereafter, promotes warped beliefs resulting in detours, prejudices, and ultimately, we diminish truth.

En-Courage

EN-COURAGE: Put Courage Into
Inspire with confidence, promote, spur on, steel, stir up, strengthen, enliven, embolden, comfort, applaud, boost, promote, incite, commend, steer/guide, lighten the load... .

How Creative can you be to implement encouragement? Would you share your experiences?

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

My son is an amazing sculpturist. Presently, he’s working on a piece of twisted juniper where he's actually making water out of wood. I saw the original piece of wood - before his masterful hands began to etch, sand, refine, and draw out the shape that his artist's eyes envisioned seeing the timber, raw on the forest floor.

Awed, I imagine his craftsmanship in the same way God sees us. He created us with goodness and promise. His plans are beyond anything our finite minds can imagine. Sometimes, we get stuck seeing the way we are now... but God sees us complete.

Today, why don't all of us celebrate the unfinished lump of clay... the unchiseled piece of stone... the ordinary block of wood... the tatted and dirty beggar... the cranky clerk - and encourage someone to live their life for the glory of God - to be all they were intended to be. Encourage yourself likewise!

• 1 Thessalonians 5:11 - encourage one another and build each other up
• Hebrews 10:15 - let us encourage one
• Galatians 6:2 - bear each other's burdens
• 1 Thessalonians 3:2 - strengthen and encourage [others] in [the] faith
• Hebrews 3:13 - encourage one another daily, as long as it is called today

A Funeral is Taking Place

Not behind you or to the side of you... not in an intimate chapel with creaky seats and altars punctuated by stiff, cultivated flower arrangements that suffocate the air... but smack-dab in front of you: every day, a funeral is taking place.

Don’t ignore it simply because you saw no announcements in the obituaries, witnessed no mourners sharing fake platitudes after glowing epitaphs from the deceased’s family. It’s every bit as real as a funeral followed by a consort of somber drivers tailgating to a graveside service in a grassy, tombstone-dotted cemetery or on a private hillside. The deceased, “resting” in an elaborate wooden coffin - one that would probably make 3 or 4 mortgage payments or feed a family of 5 for 6 months - is stretched out in their mortician-embalmed body shielded by a black limo’s tinted windows. Soon, the undertakers and the chosen pallbearers will emerge and with quasi-military precision, walk the deceased to their “final resting place” in the ground, or, if cremation was chosen, in a crypt.

The drably dressed stand for the final solemnities - usually delivered by some “person of the cloth.” This ritual is followed by a few select flowers placed gently over the dead's box, consigned by ceremonious shovels of dirt spilt onto the casket’s excavated gravesite.

The entire occasion is one lived out in shadows where people speak in hushed tones and try to forget all the times they were hurt or offended by the dead, and yet were too afraid to confront them on the earthly journey where wholeness, healing, and hope might have resulted.

Some of the mourners linger a short while. Others gather for potlucks and shared experiences about the deceased - mostly lies or at least exaggerations, but not all. Some get drunk. Others go home and rejoice that the dead are, well... dead, and no longer a present in-your-face disturbance to their daily lives.

This is not the funeral described in a few small pockets of the Bible, however. These sections speak of another type of funeral; another type of death: a death where one dies to him/herself. Daily. This death is no once-in-a-lifetime (pun intended) event. This is a crushed but not destroyed, perplexed but not abandoned s.e.r.i.e.s. of events. (I hear your "hip, hip, hooray" reverberations.)

These mini-deaths celebrate passing away of the old and something new, fresh, better, springing forth. These deaths hold out and hold onto h.o.p.e. – an active, longed for, persevering hope for a resurrection. Otherwise, we might as well do the "eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die" deal.

This death rejoices. It’s not supposed to be gloom and doom from which there is no escape. This is a death of dying to all the things we lust after; not things we need, but things we want: Blue-Ray DVD players, the latest Wii game, Kindles, iPads, power tools, trips to an obscure Pacific island where, if you’re a girly-girl, you might fantasize yourself decked out in Manolo Blahnik’s or Louboutin shoes and a flirty Dolce & Gabbana day dress when your budget screams Kohls or WalMart. It's not all about "stuff" of course, stuff is merely a symptom. It could be jealousy over someone with a bigger 501K, greater popularity, or angst over someone who continually rubs you the wrong way and you repeatedly employ that 7x70 forgiveness formula.

This is the death of f.l.e.s.h.

“Flesh” for the uninitiated, is what the Bible references as the “old man” - the part of us that is tied to the temporal instead of longing for the unseen riches promised by a loving Creator in a world beyond this one we’re in (the one, in case you haven’t noticed, that is decaying at a pretty rapid rate these days).

"Why?" you might find yourself asking, would anyone choose to give up (die to) such delicious things hyped not merely as worthwhile and useful, but “must have” glitzy, magnetic temptations from from every storefront, every Internet page, every aspect of media imprinting our minds. (We deserve them, don't we?)

Far as I know, TIME® Magazine never chose as their “Person of the Year” the one who died most often to his/her flesh. No; TIME® (and other post-modern culture/agenda-driven influencers) have different standards. And like it or not, we’ve all been taunted by them… lured by them… succumbed to them… had our lives ruled by them. But, let me assure you, these standards are not listed in the pages of Torah or the New Testament. If you don’t believe me, check it out for yourself.

Why would anyone, let alone G.O.D. ask that we die to self-indulgent passions and desires and be alive to something purportedly better. What could be better than the “latest and greatest” ________ (you fill in the blanks).

And why would we go along with such a ridiculous concept of being dissolved by death, but enlivened in faith to hope and the sure promise of a glorious outcome you've never glimpsed at on a 30" commercial let alone seen in "real" life. It is rare for the dead to come back and give us a report. Even if they did; we’d probably not believe them considering we read of visions and revelations people have had; yet our lives change little because of them.

Are we all excited in the morning and when we get out of bed, do we say, “Oh goody… today I get to die to my flesh?” Hardly. In contrast, we turn on our radios or televisions and hear about some little trinket advertised (and oh, did I mention, it’s “on sale” ), and we’ve been wanting one of those for, gee we can’t remember how long… .

When we’re making a stab at this “dying thing” and we seriously think our head is in the game and then the bottom sorta falls out of our lives, we wonder why we don’t thrill to being dead, yet alive.

It’s a crazy, mixed up, largely mysterious assignment. Ask anyone who’s tried it.

At first, big trials (the ones that heat up quickly and fade slowly), are usually cushioned by grace and heavy doses of mercy. People with skin on (not just the invisible God) – actually show up – come alongside and help you walk through the beginning stages of a crisis. Some stay longer than others, but eventually, it’s mostly you and God, baby.

That might not shake you, but for most of us mortals, I'll bet there will be some questions and flailing of hands heavenward. Some of us will dig into our Bibles for inspiration and courage. Some, as King David did when he felt down and out, will attempt to unearth the redemptive in the midst of our difficulty. Some days, we will enjoy success. We will find an anointed passage of scripture serving as healing balm and our souls will shout out: “Blessed be the Lord God Almighty… let everything that is within me, praise His name.” Other days, we might sob and groan l.o.u.d.l.y. with "what is going on here... will this ever stop?" whimpers. Buckets of tears may fall down our cheeks as we plead for God to “show up” and make himself real. Sometimes he will. Other times he will be quiet. He’s not hiding, but we may imagine that he is.

These are the times when fiery darts and heavy trials would like to consume us. These trials don’t woo us to our special reading nook next to a comfy fire on a misty winter’s day. These are times when the trial is more bonfire-ish and out of control. These are the times where we reach for a cell phone to call 911 and oops… no cell phone and/or we’re 100 miles from the nearest fire station. These are the times when we need help from the only one who can walk through the fire with us - the one Daniel and his friends hung out with in a lions den, lo those many years ago.

These are the trials that build trust.

Be assured, if you haven’t already enjoyed the experience, there is a trial... a fire... that will come into your life. It may be an illness, you could be disfigured or have lost functionality, suffered from a a fractured relationship, lost a job, be lamenting the death of a loved one, endured a shockingly devastating loss, or some other trauma; but it really doesn’t matter what it is… what matters is how you look at it... how you navigate through it.

Couple suggestions for when you're in the trial: Don't wear black. Dress up. Color is good. Don't envision yourself in a bleak casket locked away for people to view your dower face. Don't look for mourners; most of them are going through their own trial. Don't hold that "pity party" you'd like to host (no one wants to come); and don't drink, eat, or shop yourself into oblivion. Gird up. Steel yourself. This is a long race not a sprint. You're going to be doing this 'til the "tent" that houses your soul, literally "gives up the ghost" and you die-die; like for realz. Get it? This is not pie in the sky, this is reality. Check.

Let me encourage you fellow sojourner: let your trial usher in some change... let it burn out the desires for the things of this world... let it humble and reshape you.

Sometimes the fire will be like chalky coals - the kind where you toast marshmallows around a camp fire, make S'mores, and sing “Kumbaya, my Lord, kumbaya.” Other times, it will be a raging fire and you won’t be singing “kumbaya” (come by here), but “get me outta here." Whatever it looks like... feels like... be real, authentic, honest with yourself and (if necessary and profitable), with others. We all need some heavy does of spiritual reality. Not all of us can hide out in lah-lah land. Some of us still dig around in trenches. And guess what? It's okay. Jesus is down with it. Really; he is.

Each one of us in this life has a “cross to bear.” I won’t kid you; it’s not the same cross Jesus bore... but it has many similarities. Might as well get used to it. Embrace it. It’s gonna happen, even if you don’t/won’t surrender rejoicing in hope, although for a little while, you are distressed.

Trials come. Trials go. Through all of them, you will plumb for faith. You will discover if it’s shallow or deep. If it's deep, go deeper. If it's shallow, shore up. Going up is good too; painful, but good. If you need a course correction; do it. Forgive yourself and move on. Don't get stuck.

It’s up to each of us to yield to death – to the daily funeral – that our faith may be found more precious than gold which is tested by fire.

As I’m writing this, gold is pressing $2k an ounce in the major indexes. Even in worldly terms, that’s a fair amount. How much more precious is the gold you will produce under pressure of fire.

May your faith be tried, and tested, and may you be found genuine. The result of such a journey is promised. Maybe it means nothing to you, but this promise is praise and honor and glory at the revelation of Christ – the Saviour of the World. Eternity is on the horizon. We've all been invited to live with him, and what a day that will be.

Contained in this promise is joy inexpressible and full of glory for your soul, for you have died and are now alive. The funeral is over.

Grab hold of the promise now, while it's still "gettable" cuz trust me: a fiery trial may be the best offer you get today.

Aproskopos

Gird up against Offense (Greek: Aproskopos)

We've all experienced it: OFFENSE. The Greek word is "aproskopos" which rather sounds like an offense to my hearing ear.

Mostly, offense charges in unannounced - ofttimes when we least expect it. Other times, we may anticipate it, but we're still caught off guard. In our shock, we strike an offensive blow because we're unprepared. Instead of adding toxicity, we could - with a measure of training - execute a defense tactic and safeguard our hearts.

In "The Good Book," I discovered a few instructions about offense. It says we're to be on the lookout for it - like a sentry - not just "react" to it like some slug, caught unawares.

When it comes - and it will - we are to take assertive action to ward off, deflect, divert, turn away, the gnarly impact of offense instead of becoming prey to more misdeeds.

By following a few simple steps (I didn't say easy), we can both avoid our own indignation and outbursts, and keep these displeasurable wounds and annoyances from ever finding a place to roost in our minds. The mind - that's where the battle is anyway, because nothing positive comes from offending the offender. That just mucks up the situation even further. Sludge creates more sludge.

When it comes to putting the plow toward purposeful purity, here are some powerful pointers:

Gird (encircle, strengthen, bolster, brace, fortify, reinforce) up the loins (generative power) of your mind, being sober (calm, collected in spirit, temperate, dispassionate, circumspect, watchful) with hope (fully trusting with joy and full confidence), to the end.

Stir up (arouse, render active) your pure mind (soul and spirit by way of thinking/feeling, desiring, discerning, understanding, reflective thought by possessing the mind Christ) having been reminded to approve (test, examine, prove, deem worthy) things that are excellent (distinguishing between good and evil, approving things that excel and surpass (go up higher); to proclaim. bear, carry out and through any place and in different directions and manners as you drive, impel, and urge on) – the surpassing excellence of Christ, that you may be found sincere (authentic, unblemished, unspoiled, above suspicion) when unfolded and examined by light) and without offence (nothing to strike against nor cause to stumble; blameless, not troubled by consciousness of sin), right up until the end.

Sounds like some good advice to me. Think I'll go tool up right now!

MUCH

The Hebrew word for much is "rob" meaning: abundant, abundance in any respect, excellent, great (ly, ness, number), huge, be increased, many more in number, most, multitude, plenty(-iful), and very (age).

In the English Roget's Thesaurus, abundant synonyms are: abounding, ample, copious, crawling over with, exuberant, filled, generous, lavish, profuse, sufficient, teeming, extensive, lavish, substantial, unrestricted, fertile, fruitful, spacious, no end.

Decree and delare over yourself, that the irresistible, all-sufficient "GOD of MUCH" potentize, vitalize, and invigorate your life by the Spirit - for you are an adored, cherished, and effectual fruit bearer in the Kingdom.

Patterns

In this sphere and beyond, there exist persistent, relentless, timeless, unfailing, and unchanging patterns. They are the markings of wisdom and understanding.

They carve out the unnecessary, inconsequential, superfluous, and expendable.

They etch in the discriminating, significant, vital, and strategic.

May you experience them ~ allow them to be pressed, poured into, and made plain along your pathways for purpose and promise.

I'm seeking mine out! They are discoverable.

Streams of Signifigance

Because we long to be valued and accepted, many of us look to others for affirmation and approval.

Flattery is a dry gulch. It may allure, but it is impotent. You cannot plumb it's depth to receive nourishment or be replenished.

Man may stir your passions. Man may help you paddle the streams you navigate, but no man can tap into the deep waters of significance except the one who creates the waterways.

We may sit on pleasant banks of plaudits, prestige, and prominence, spawning on feel good ladders of pedigree and power, but these are shallow pools.

Ultimately, our thirst, relevance, and contentment is only supplied by and satisfied through the stream itself - secured by the anchor upon whose waters we are shaped.

An Extraordinary Pot

I was and am being made - wonderfully, creatively, with extraordinary magnificence by a resplendent potter.

A part of me affirms and agrees with this. However, I live in a world gone berserk, and because I make some crazy-bad choices, I have become broken and imperfect - shattered like fine pottery.

Working in the dark undercurrents of the culture around me... and within the recesses of my thought life, there is a monstrously wicked influence that purposes to destroy me and bring me to ruin. I forget that this larger-than-life creature, with a booming voice, is merely a mouse with a megaphone. Sometimes others forget this as well. In those moments, I am forgotten, like one who is dead: a broken vessel.

Thankfully, there is an even larger, larger-than-life entity that has not handed me over to this enemy. That one sets my feet in places of freedom... restores me in my grief and failing strength. Although I am seen as a reproach, I am rescued, delivered into places of refuge.

A flawless, unblemished, heavenly razzle-dazzle template is placed over every one of my enterprises, interests, missions, tasks, and transactions. This undertaking is marked by grace, crowned by mercy, and sealed by loving kindness. This is evidence that there is one who does not forsake the works of his own hand.

I am the workmanship of this one, called the Potter, who places a hand on my lump of clay. Long ago, the potter prepared amazing things that stretch before me. The Potter also placed within me, a desire to walk in the places that please and bring honor. The Potter began a good work in me and promises to complete it - right up until the fulness of time. Together, with my cooperation, the Potter is restoring, transforming, renewing and I am discerning what is good, acceptable and perfect.

Triumph: "Umph" Added To Try.

Triumph: a good dose of "umph" added to try.

Whether you're little or whether you're big, sometimes it's that last step - the one that almost seems too difficult to take - that's the one that holds you back. You're tired. You're tired of trying.

Friends, advisers, even strangers might observe your struggle... get out their pom poms and in their best ''rah-rah'' voice, say:
"Hey, just stay in the game, you can do it... c'mon, don't stop, charge ahead."

Others, a sigh sandwiched between impatience and irritation, might yell in exasperation: "Oh my gosh... look how far you've come. Don't quit now!!"

Or, you may hear a nagging inner voice mocking: "See, I knew you'd never make it, you loser!"

Ignore all such voices. Be true to you... your strategies... your goal... . Grab yourself some more umph.

Remember how you started out? Remember that first step? It looked so big - so unconquerable. But you took it. Keep on that path of assent - the one that moves you toward... forward... onward.

Rock steady. Stay on course. Keep looking up. Persevere. You're closer than you think.

Wait for Strength?

Do you live in an upside down kingdom? The one where things seem outside in instead of inside out? The one seemingly full of paradox?

In our attempt for understanding, instead of believing with the "eyes of faith," we often attempt to tangle the uncomplicated. We make simple truths pretentious.

Starting from our first words, we ask big questions. We seem borne with a "?" mark - like a cartoon caption hovering over our heads. Simple curiosity? Eager to learn?

From "Why, Daddy?" to "Who made the..., Mommy?" fill the ears of our parents and grandparents.

In our humanity, we seem unable to grasp statements that seem to be true. We challenge. Are unaccepting. The answers are... well, just too simple. This point is never more adequately demonstrated than we who question the authenticity, veracity... the authority, and sureness of words from the Truth Giver.

"Well," we say, who were these scribes "inspired by God," who penned the holy writ? "Or," we submit, "The Bible has been messed up - translators have failed to correctly grasp the original intent, or they improperly translated the Hebrew or the Greek."

On and on it goes. Is this willful stubbornness, curiosity, or, something else?

When we sit down for a lovely meal - whether the table setting is gorgeous, the atmosphere idyllic, our dining partner charming, it is our taste buds that grade the better part of our culinary experience. Perhaps this is why in Psalm 34:8 we are encouraged to "taste and see that the LORD is good; and discover that those who trust in and take refuge in him are blessed."

We must chew on these morsels of truth. Masticate them well. Get our digestive juices involved. Absorb the good nutrients.

If we take sustenance from Isaiah 40:31, a passage that instructs us to "wait upon the Lord, where in waiting, we will renew our strength... mount up with wings like Eagles... run and not be weary... walk and not faint," we may be perplexed by the "waiting" part.

In waiting, a change is promised. A substitute for weakness and weariness is to take place. A change for the better. Renewal. Moreover, it is to come quickly.

Wait is an interesting word. In this passage, "waiting" is active not passive. "Waiting upon" is - attending, with expectation. Just as you might be in at your table in a fine dining establishment. You wait... you are attended by... you have expectation of the meal that is to be set before you. In respect to this passage, it is we who "attend" the LORD - wait with expectation.

While waiting does involve a pause, or moments of lingering - it is for reflection that something else is about to occur.

The Hebrew word is "qavah" and also means to collect, bind together in order to be strong, robust - a binding applied to strength because your hope is fixed on the only one who can deliver this promise.

Next time you find yourself in what you think is a waiting period, don't look further than the simplicity this passage speaks to your heart. Don't weep and mourn or think God has put you in the dog house and that you must don your sack cloth and ashes and tell the whole world of your awful predicament as if God has you in a vice grip. No; the opposite is true.

Perhaps you remember when King David gave his soul a little pep talk saying, "Why are you cast down, my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the help of my [sad] countenance, and my God. ~ Psalm 43: 5

Ephesians 6 instructs us to get our armor on - get in the fray, not wallow on our beds.

Sit up and take notice of what the Spirit of God says to your heart... to your mind... to your spirit. Wait, expectantly, courageously, hopefully.

Happy New Year 2010

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!

May you wisely examine all that is set before you. Embrace the good stuff. Toss out that bad stuff.

May your understanding deepen for the things that matter and for those that don't - may they be easily discarded.

May your heart be warm, strong. and courageous.

May you live with gusto and zeal, and dispel indifference.

May you eat hearty - but only things that build your body... build strength... and health.

May you overflow with love toward your fellow man - especially the ones you dislike.

May you live a life of honor and leave a legacy of hope.

May you practice kindness and be tenderhearted.

May you find people in ditches, lift them out and put them on solid ground.

May you prosper in all ways - in wisdom and discernment, and in practical ways - so that you might give lavishly to those who need it, and even to those who do not.

May you seed into virtue. May your crop be outrageous.

May you be civil in all your ways; gracious and courteous to all.

May you see that when things suck, that you have the power to affect change... make things better.

May tenderness and grace occupy your mind and from it overflow (with increase) to a despairing world in need.

May you forgive early and often, including yourself.

May you be at peace with yourself, with Creator God, and with man.

May you be filled with so much goodness and kindheartedness that even you are amazed!

May you always remember that words are either life or death. May yours always produce life.

May joy flood your heart and displace sorrow and the painful wounds of the past.

May patience and peace rule your days.

May your hear clearly and act decisively.

May your knowledge be great, and your wisdom be sure.

May your friendships bring you comfort and a giggle or two. May you be a friend so that you will have many.

May the things you have not, matter not.

May the things you have, matter less.

May you share your blessings - big and small - with others, that you might bring honor to the goodness resident within you - that same goodness that longs for and hungers for a land beyond.

2009 says goodbye. Let it go. Stretch forth to the new year. 2010 will be a year to behold. We were born for a time such as this. Dream big. Anticipate beyond anything you ever expected to receive. Remember: you alone = little. Together, as living stones rightly fitted, we build... we build hope that leads to freedom that leads to victory. For freedom you have been set free.

I think that I shall never see...

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree."

Algae and Pond Scum

Sometimes algae growth indicates a lack of balance or oxygen deficiency. It's usually caused by dead things that create sludge leading to stagnation, icky odors and other unpleasant outcomes. Controlling bad algae can be labor intensive and include methods such as chemicals and filters (some of which inherently bring about other issues that may be as problematic as the algae itself).

Not all algae is bad, however; in fact, some algae from high altitude lakes is harvested for its health benefits.

Kinda like life.

Sometimes we identify a problem as a problem, when in fact, locked within it is a solution, a benefit.

Examining the "algae-like" matters in our lives is worth pondering.

GOD IS NOT SAFE

God is not safe.
He is demanding. He probes my heart, invades my stuff, consumes it. Dead stuff seems to be his specialty.
Generally speaking, he doesn't butt in, preferring to beckon. Nevertheless, he's insistent about certain things - y'know: virtue, purity, obedience, devotion - that kinda thing.
He's big on leading. Regrettably, I'm a bit passive about following. Not always; but too often.
I wobble; he's firm. I vacillate; he changeless. I'm weak; he's fierce. I get stirred up; he's at rest.
What gives me courage to know God - causes me to yield - compels me to trust?
Love. Grace.
His grace helps me trust. His love sets me free - free to be pursued, consumed, led, strengthened, encouraged, walk rightly...

and love in return.

Looking Over Your Shoulder

What do our actions say about us?

I recently attended the documentary film, "LORD, Save us From Your Followers."

Small theatre - perhaps some 50-60 people attended the showing I did.

The gist of the film is how the world, especially Americans, view Christians. The responses from the "unbelieving" well, let's just say: "not so pretty."

Looking at the impression our words and deeds make on the culture... on our neighbor... our spouses/children... the clerks/sales staff at the market... the guy in heavy traffic - the one your 17-year old just "flipped the bird" and who now sits 12 people down the pew from you in church... .

It's a conversation worth having, as writer/producer/director Dan Merchant might say.

Merchant doesn't give solutions, but he provokes you/me to think of some. The Q is: will we do it? Will we (who believe), change up our game plan? Even a smidge?

Here's what just one row looked like after the film concluded.

Obviously this isn't the worse thing anyone could do, but still...

Considering that a trash receptacle was less than 30' away, what impression do you think this left on the managers and the three or four teens that came in to clean up?

Do these same Christian's who randomly left their snacks strewn about - do they toss food on their floor around their dining room table?

Just askin'

CHOOSE

WILL YOU CHOOSE -
Choose to steep your soul in love... be bound by love... yoked to love... compelled through love... find unhindered expression in love... respond out of love... live arrested by love - not merely the essence of love, but love itself: indescribable, incomprehensible, and irresistible.

Many live in sorrow and pain because they have not received love... been touched by extravagant, condition-less, inexhaustible love. But love always reaches out through others who have experienced love, who walk in love, albeit awkwardly at times.

The tender touch of love... the gentle whisper... this inner persuasion. teaches us patience, mercy, and grace.

Love reaches into the painful places of people's lives, woos them... redeems them... restores them.

Receive the mark of love. Choose to adorn yourself in love's lavish garments of peace.

TIME

We all begin somewhere in time.

But, perhaps we place to much emphasis on this matter called time.

Time draws from a well of memories - washing us with a landscape of colors, scents, textures, and whispers of the past. Many times, such recollections muscle their way into our lives - pretending to hold power over us to influence our present.

Will we let them?

Often we do.

Memories capture our attention. Likely, we spend too much time entertaining them - as if they were invited guests for which we dress ourselves in linen, put out fine China plates and crystal goblets.

Fixating on memories of the past - especially the sorrowful ones - is disproportionate to many other positive activities that could - would we let them - occupy our thoughts and move us into courage and peace.

Memories often tether us to our failures - our should have's, our if only's, and so forth. They sneak into the unsuspecting places of our minds and lock us into despair instead of releasing us into destiny. There is something fundamentally wrong with permitting this to continue.

We must look for the treasure in the least obvious places.

If we really understood the power of this day, this moment - time: past, present, or future - would neither alter nor diminish us. It would only enhance the memories that anchor us to legacy.

Let's take time from the place of ransom. Let's ignore its negative hold. Let's quit apologizing for what wasn't and pursue what will be.
